About this item
English Adam-style gilded hardwood wall mirror with carved and cast square frame with rounded top, surmounted by an urn pediment with garland swags and flower spray. High quality in excellent condition, first quarter of the 20th century.
'Adam-Style’ (or ‘Adamesque’) is an C18th Neoclassical style of interior design and architecture, as practised by Scottish architect William Adam and his sons, but which maintained its popularity well into the early 19th century when it was picked up by other makers and architects. The Adam-style is most notably identified by classical Roman decorative motifs, such as vases, vine swags and ribbons.
