About this item
This Dutch sweetmeats set consists of two lidded cut glass bowls on silver supports. These sit on on ivory mounts on an ebonised figure eight shaped wooden stand. Together with the silver carrying handle the whole set rests on cleverly turned ivory bun feet. The feet are made of two threaded pieces which enable you to adjust the feet so that the piece sits solidly on any surface. The height to the top of the handle is 245 mm (9 5/8ths inches), the length is 290 mm (11.5 inches) and the depth is 125 mm (5 inches). There are a number of tiny chips to the edges of the bowls and one chip that measures 10mm x 5mm (shown in the last photo). Also the stem where one of the bowls joins the silver supports has been broken and repaired and both lids have the very point of the handle missing, but the loss is miniscule. The silver is stamped with the sword mark and the letter "H" denoting Dutch silver for the year 1842. Overall it remains a very attractive sweetmeats set.
