    About this item

A very pretty Victorian silver mounted cut glass preserve / jam / honey jar with swing handle and silver cover with cast daisy type flower knop. Decorated in aesthetic movement style, the cover and handle are engraved with stylised fern fronds and clumps of lilies of the valley. The handle has a vacant cartouche to the centre. Beaded rim to the silver mount on the jar with slice and prism cut decoration to the glass and set on a fine star cut base. Handle, glass mount and cover all fully hallmarked for London 1874, maker Thomas Smily.

It measures 12.7cm (5") high with the handle raised, 9cm (3 1/2") high to the top of the cover and 5.8cm (2 1/4") to the rim. 12.7cm (5") wide across the base. Total weight 552g (the cover weighs 73g / 2.4ozt).

In very good condition: two very minor dints to the handle, one being hidden underneath. No repairs and minor handling wear, the marks and engraved detail is all lovely and clear, and no damage to the glass.
