Pair Of Period Oak Hall Antique Chairs

This is a pair of 1700s period oak high back chairs. These are hall chairs, they are very like wainscot chairs but a wainscot chair has arms and these are without arms. The chairs are a great. They are a lovely simple shape with a good, deep, rich colour.  The backs have carved uprights , each with a panelled back showing a pair of male figures each holding a sword, but standing mirrored so carved as a pair rather than two exactly the same. Above the panels are beautifully caved cresting rails with a curved top. The carving is also echoed on the cross piece under the panel. The seat is lovely colour and comfortably flat. The legs are carved and turned with a turned front stretcher and square cut side and rear stretchers. The construction is pegged. 

The chairs are in great condition. They are solid and sturdy and good for purpose as well as being beautiful. There has been a repair to one of the back uprights but it has been professionally and sympathetically done.
