A good documentary piece from this interesting factory founded in Schramberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany in 1820 by Isidor Faist (1797-1853) and Philipp Johann Isenbiehl (1787-1845).
The jug can be quite accurately dated to around 1838 as the transfer printed views of Zurich and Schaffausen are taken from images by Henry Winkles (1801–1860) published in that year in "Vues Classiques de la Suisse". This piece is evidence of an interesting collaboration as Winkles, together with Karl Ludwig Frommel, (1789–1863) had founded the first studio for steel engraving in Germany in 1836.
For a transfer printed creamware plate made at Philip J. Isenbiehl's Schramberg pottery and dated to1820-40, see Victoria & Albert Museum [C.162-1912]. A near identical shaped jug, but with a view of the Schramberg pottery factory, can be seen in the Stadtmuseum Schramberg.
Good condition. Age related wear to the extremities, restoration to the tip of the spout.
