About this item
This well-drawn GEORGIAN SUNDERLAND LUSTRE JUG dates from circa 1830.
It is decorated with a transfer prints entitled of a TALL SHIP in Full Sail, beneath which is the verse:
‘Majestically slow before the breeze
The tall ship marches on the azure seas
in silent pomp she cleave the watery plain
The pride and wonder of the billow main’
To the other side is a transfer print entitled FARMERS’ ARMS. Beneath the spout is a beautiful and freely painted flower amongst foliage. The yellow band forms a nice contrast with the pink lustre.
There is an old start crack to the side and foot rim which is stable. There is an old, thin surface chip to the lipa d a shrinkage line where the spout joins the body. This has occurred during the firing.
There is no restoration.
