About this item
This decorative brass toasting fork is decorated with a good quality casting of the "Lincoln Imp" to join the rod and the tines. It carries the registration number 669456 which indicates that this design was registered in 1919, and would probably have been a souvenir of Lincoln or Lincoln Cathedral. It measures 483 mm (19 inches) in length and 62 mm (2.5 inches) across the handle. It is in very good condition. C1920.
The Lincoln Imp is a carved grotesque on a wall inside Lincoln Cathedral, and is now a symbol of the Cathedral and of the city of Lincoln in Lincolnshire, England. Legend has it that the Imp was sent to Lincoln by the devil to create havoc, but was turned into stone by an angel.
