Large Antique Gillows Library Table / Large Desk

A very rare and handsome large antique library table or desk made by the famous English furniture makers Gillows of Lancaster.

The makers stamp can be found to the top of one drawer and numbered the model number L2619 on another drawer.

The desk was made from top quality figured mahogany timbers and is of a rare large size, being 78 inches by 41.5 inches (199cm x 106cm).

The top is fitted with an attractive dark brown, antique finish, writing leather with gilt and blind tooling which is surrounded by a band of figured mahogany with a moulded edge.

The top has rounded corners and the sides of the frieze are panelled and the frieze is fitted 3 drawers to front and back.

All drawers are mahogany lined with hand cut dovetail joints. They have the original locks with 2 keys.

The drawers have never been fitted with handles as they are designed to be pull out from beneath.

There is a cut out to the frame below each drawer to allow them to be opened and closed.

The desk stands on four well turned, fluted tapering legs, culminating in the original brass castors.

This handsome antique library table has been professionally cleaned and is in beautiful antique condition.

It is ready for installation and would look stunning in a large office or library.
