About this item
A Pair of Auguste-Maximilien Delafontaine gilt bronze candlesticks c. 1870. The stems are carefully articulated to resemble sticks of bamboo, and are each surmounted by a heron sitting upon a tortoise with a snake in its mouth. Each candlestick has six arms with room for six candles, and the pair end in tripod bases with sabots.
Condition: Generally good/very good, part of one snake is missing, although hardly noticeable and we feel at one time the sabots were stood on marble base or circles, but they are very steady in present state
Provenance: The Property of a Country House, England from family Flanders, Belgium
