About this item
Japanned longcase clock with gilt chinoiserie decoration. The arched dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring enclosing a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, with a matted centre, the arch with strike/silent dial, all within pierced foliate scroll spandrels. The twin train movement strikes a bell within a pagoda shaped hood, the pendulum housed within an arched trunk door decorated with chinoiserie scenes, all sitting on a box base. The 8 day striking movement inscribed Joseph Wallis, London (Recorded as working in London, circa 1778. See Baillies Clock Markers of the World)
