16 size 17 Jewel Illinois Bunn Loaner pocket watch c1922

This is an American railroad grade pocket watch.

This is a LOANER Pocket watch. When a Railroad employee needed to have his watch serviced and maintained, he was lent a pocket watch until his was ready. These watches were made by manufacturer and had many different markings and stamps depending on the railroad, watch service dept and watch manufacturer. 

This watch does show wear as these Loaner watches were used by many.

Movement – the high grade nickel ¾ plate movement is a model 11. The movement has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator, gold train wheels, raised gold jewel settings and is decorated with very fine and scarce wavy damascening. The movement is signed “Bunn, Illinois Watch Co, Springfield, 19 Jewels, Adjusted temperature 5 positions” # 4159680. The movement is in 90% mint condition – some scratches

Case – the movement comes in a white metal open face case by Illinois which has a screw off back and bezel. The case is engraved on the back “A.G. & S, 1045, Loaner, MPHS” The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition

Dial – the white enamel dial is double sunk and has a full set of blue steel hands. The dial is signed “Illinois” and the dial is in 95% mint condition – a chip above the sub seconds

The watch has a bevelled mineral glass

The watch measures 50mm wide x 14mm deep

The watch is stem wound / stem set
