About this item
This is a railroad grade pocket watch used by the US government for military issue pocket watches during the Second World War. It is unusual that it has a Canadian market 24 hour dial and also that is in such good condition as most military watches show much more wear.
Movement – the high grade nickel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement, a gold capped escape wheel and lever, a gold centre wheel and a micrometer regulator. The movement is decorated with damascening and is signed “Hamilton Watch Co, USA, 992B, 21 Jewels, US Govt, Adj Temp & 6 pos, C98988. The movement is in 99% mint condition – a superb example
Case – the movement comes in a base metal open face case, which has a screw off back and bezel. The case has engraved contract details on the back “Ordinance Dept, USA, NO.OE - 10946 ”. The case has engine turned edges and is in 80% mint condition – a small patch of scratches on the back however still a good presentable case and not the usual wear on a military case
Dial – the white enamel dial has an inner 24 hour dial in red enamel in the centre with an 18 plus a 6 in the sub seconds. The dial has a full set of blue steel hands. The dial is signed “Hamilton” and is in 100% mint condition
The watch is stem wound / lever set
The watch has a bevelled mineral glass
The watch measures 51mm wide x 13mm deep
