    About this item

18kt Yellow Gold J G Graves Pocket Watch Made in Sheffield, England circa 1880

    WORLDWIDE SHIPPING!

This is a very elegant Victorian 18kt yellow gold open-face pocket watch made in Sheffield, England, circa 1880.  The watch comes with a decorative watch stand made of cherry wood, making it a perfect vintage gift or collector’s item!

DIAL: The white enamel telephone dial has blue roman numerals with gold outer minute divisions. Each individual numeral is elegantly bordered by a golden cartouche.

The dial has lyre hands and a gold-patterned design set on top of a pink centre.  The dial is engraved J G Graves Sheffield at the top and Swiss Made below.  The intricacy of the dial’s design is testament to its highly detailed craftsmanship.

MOVEMENT: The key wind cylinder movement (winding key included) is Swiss made and is currently fully functional but due to its antique nature, we cannot guarantee precise accuracy.

CASE: The watch lies in an 18kt yellow gold case adorned with a pretty floral engraving and a monogram free cartouche in the centre. The rear of the case is marked 18K and numbered 188116.

    Signed: - J G Graves, Sheffield*

*John George Graves (1866–1945) was a successful English entrepreneur and public benefactor. He was born in Lincolnshire in 1866 and died in 1945, after having settled in Sheffield.  Graves moved to Sheffield to become an apprentice watchmaker. He set up one of Britain's first mail order businesses, first selling watches and then a wide range of goods.
