    About this item

This is an English silver pocket watch which has clear hallmarks for Chester 1834

The watch has been cleaned and serviced and keeps excellent time for a watch of this age.

However this is an English silver pocket watch with a fusee chain driven movement. These types of movements are extremely fragile and it is very easy to break the fusee chain if you have never handled one of these watches before and so consequently we do not cover this costly repair in the warranty.

Movement – the gilt full plate fusee movement has a lever escapement with a watch cock decorated with a raised image of a phoenix and signed Patent. The movement also has a three arm gold balance with three compensation screws and a large diamond endstone set in blue steel. The movement is signed “Thos Russell, Lancaster, 12525 ”. The movement is in 95% mint condition – a lovely example but a small patch of scratches on one plate pin.

The movement has a working stop start lever

The movement has its original gilt dust cap.

Case – the movement comes in an English silver open face case, which has a hinged back and bezel. The watch is wound from the back, set from the front and the movement is accessed from the front also.

The back cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the case button in.

The case is decorated with a curved bezel and back and middle section is decorated with coin edging, giving the case an attractive banded effect. The case has engine turning on the back and is in 95% mint condition – superb condition

Dial – the off white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is in 85% mint condition – several hairlines but all faint and haven’t broken through the final layer of enamel. However when you tilt the watch and let the light catch the dial, you will see them under a loupe

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch measures 50mm wide x 19mm deep

The watch is key wound / key set and comes with an old key
