This is a superb example of one of the best and rarest Hamilton Railroad pocket watches, the 16 size 23 Jewel 950E – Elinvar.
Movement – the high quality bridge movement has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator. The movement has gold train wheels, raised gold jewel settings, gold capped lever and is decorated with damascening. The movement is signed “Hamilton Watch Co, Lancaster, Pa, Motor Barrel, 950, 23J, Adjusted to 5 positions” #2612307. The movement is also signed “Elinvar” under the balance (the E suffix) and is in 95% mint condition – superb condition
Case – the movement comes in a Hamilton, 10K gold filled Rail road model case which has a screw off back and bezel. The case has carved sides and the rest of the case has a smooth plain finish. The case is in 90% mint condition – some light marks and scratches on the back
Dial – the white enamel Montgomery dial is double sunk and has a full set of blue steel hands and continuous minute marks. The dial is signed “Hamilton” and is in 100% condition.
The watch has a mineral glass
The watch measures 51mm wide x 13mm deep
The watch is stem wound / lever set
