About this item
This is a really fine example of an early silver cylinder pocket watch made in the Empire style with a much slimmer and more elegant profile than other watches of the period.
It would have been made in Switzerland or France and sent to England where it was, finished, retailed and sold
Movement – the gilt bridge movement has a cylinder escapement and is in 90% mint condition - light marks and scratches only.
Case – the movement comes in a silver open face case, which has a silver back and bezel and a hinged gilt inner cover signed “Gravell & Son, London, No 31814, Horizontal escapement, four holes jewelled”
The case has a slender profile and is decorated with richly carved edges with shell and floral motifs. The back of the case has engine turning and is in 95% mint condition – light wear only
Dial – the off white enamel dial has gilt hands and is signed “Gravell & Son, London” and is in 100% mint condition
The watch has a mineral glass
The watch measures 46mm wide x 10mm
The watch is key wound / key set and comes with an attractive period key
The watch comes in a leather period box lined with ruffled blue silk.
