    About this item

This is a rare early 18 size Waltham pocket watch made by Waltham c1870 – 1871

Although the model 57s were made in their 1000s, there were only 100 made in this particular run and then the watch was sent to England where it was cased in an English case but in the American style – completely different to most other English silver cases of the time. This case has English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1875

Movement – the gilt full plate model 1857 movement has a lever escapement and 11 Jewels. The movement is signed “PS Bartlett, Waltham, Mass, Foggs Patent” # 518276 and is in 85% mint condition – cloudy stains and marks

Case – the movement comes in an English silver open face case, which has a hinged inner, back and bezel. The back cover flips open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the button in on the stem. The case has coin edged sides, engine turning and a vacant crest on the back. The case is in 95% mint condition – a superb example

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “American Watch Co”. The dial is in 95% mint condition – 2 faint hairline in the centre and sub seconds and a small scratch near the sub seconds

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch measures 52mm wide x 16mm deep

The watch is key wound / key set and comes with a key
