9K Gold J W Benson THE LUDGATE Half Hunter pocket watch c1935

This is a hard to find example of a gold pocket watch by Benson with an English manufactured movement rather than the (still very good) Swiss made Benson movements

Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a compensated balance. The movement is signed “The “New” Ludgate, Best London Make, 7602, J W Benson, 62 and 64 Ludgate Hill, London”. The movement is in 95% mint condition

Case – the movement comes in a 9K gold J W Benson half hunter case, which has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The case is stamped JWB.

The front cover opens to 90 degrees when you press the winder in. 

The case is decorated with a dark blue enamel numbers on the front. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – 3 very light blemished on the back

Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of gilt half hunter hands and a blue steel sub seconds hand. The dial is signed “J W Benson, London”. The dial is in 100% mint condition

The watch has a mineral glass over the dial and a mineral one in the cover

The watch measures 51mm wide x 13mm deep

The watch is stem wound / pin set

The watch comes in its original leather box lined with silk and velvet and signed J W Benson, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill. The box is in superb condition
