About this item
This pocket watch is one of the finest English watches you can buy in silver. It was made by the esteemed watch maker Charles Frodsham and has a particularly unusual chronograph set up in exposed steel. The watch has clear hallmarks for London 1893 and is in near perfect condition throughout
Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a compensated balance.
The movement has a start, stop, fly back and reset chronograph function with a register. This movement has the exposed steel work for this function and is in a different layout to most other chronographs of the day
The movement is signed “By Appointment to the Queen, No 08552, Chas Frodsham (late of 84 Strand, 115 New Bond St”.
The movement is in 99% mint condition
Case – the movement comes in a large and top quality English silver full hunter case, which has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The front cover pops open crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in. The case has case makers marks for HMF.
The case has gold furniture, a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition
Dial – the white enamel dial has a stop start, fly back and reset chronograph function with a subsidiary seconds dial at the 9 and a 60 minute register at the 3. The watch has a full set of blue spade hands including a beautiful example for the chronograph function itself. The dial is signed “Chas Frodsham, 08552, AD.F.m.z” and is in 95% mint condition – a hairline in the centre of the dial between the two dials
The watch measures 54mm wide x 16mm deep
The watch has a mineral glass
The watch is stem wound / pin set
