    About this item

This is a superb example of an English pair case verge in 100% original condition

The watch has been cleaned and serviced but please do not expect quartz accuracy from a watch of this type

This watch has a fusee chain driven movement. These types of movements are extremely fragile and it is very easy to break the fusee chain if you have never handled one of these watches before and so consequently we do not cover this costly repair in the warranty.

Movement – the gilt full plate verge movement has cylindrical pillars, a fusee chain, a verge escapement and a beautifully pierced and engraved watch cock. The movement also has a steel regulator and is signed “R S Nicholson, Berwick, No 443”. The movement is in 95% mint condition

Inner case – the movement comes in an inner case, which has a hinged bezel and the watch is wound from the back, set from the front and is accessed from the front also. The case has its original bow and stem. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition

Outer case – the original and matching outer case has its original clasp. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 85% mint condition – a few bruises on the back and the button dome has worn away which is common on verge outer cases

The watch comes with a fabric “Watch paper” sampler of fine gauze with a red fabric background. The gauze has been sewn to show to love birds and the words “Love with out deceit” and “H & C Fry”

Dial – the white enamel dial has its original pair of gilt hands and is in 99% mint condition.

The watch has a domed mineral glass

The watch measures 57mm wide x 23mm high including the glass

The watch is key wound / key set
