Hamilton 4992B 24 Hour dial Military Pocket Watch. With MILITARY Case c1940
This is a 16 size 22 Jewel pocket watch made for the American military circa 1940
Movement – this high grade nickel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator, a raised centre seconds wheel on the top plate and capped jewel settings. The movement features a hacking function – when you pull out the winder to set the hands, the balance will stop enabling you to synchronize with other timepieces. The movement is decorated with slanted straight line damascening. The movement is signed “Hamilton Watch Co, Lancaster, Pa, USA, 22 Jewels, 4992B, Adjusted Temp & 6 Positions” # 4C134497. The movement is in 90% mint condition- come small marks
Case – the movement comes in a base metal open face case, which has a screw off back and front. The back cover is engraved “An 5740, FSSC NO. 88-W-510. MFRS PART NO 33106, SERIAL NO H 13657. CONTRACT NO. NO a(s) 3122, Hamilton Watch Co” The case is in 80% mint condition – the usual scratches found on a military case.
Dial – the black matt dial has a full set of white painted hands and has a 24 hour dial where the hands make on rotation every 24 hours instead of one. The dial is signed “GCT” and is in 95% mint condition - light marks only
The watch has a mineral glass.
The watch is stem wound / stem set
The watch measures 51mm wide x 15mm deep
The watch comes in a heavy two part case with an inner section for the watch suspended by 4 springs to cushion the watch against knocks etc. The lid of the case has a revolving cover and glass. The cover has 2 locking slots and clasp. The case has an affixed plaque “Case, Carrying Watch Navigation UA Army AC, Industrial Electronic Corp, Brooklyn, NY, USA” The case is in original unrestored condition
