About this item
This is a military issue deck watch made by Longines and used by the British government during World War 2. The watch comes with its chronometer rate certificate from 1976 where the watch lost 1 second. Day.
Movement – the top quality gilt ¾ plate movement has a gold capped lever escapement and is signed “Longines, Swiss Made, 16 Jewels” 6702383 and is also marked 19.70N under the balance. The movement is in 100% mint condition
Case – the movement comes in a heavier than usual white metal case which has a screw off back and bezel. The case is signed “Longines” on the inside of the case and the back of the case is engraved “HS3, 2383” and also a broad arrow, British government mark. The case has turned edges and a smooth plain finish and is in 95% mint condition – a small patch of light scratches on the back from sitting in a box
Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “Longines, Swiss Made”
The dial is 95% mint condition – an invisible hairline from the 4-6
The watch has a bevelled mineral glass
The watch measures 52mm wide x 15mm deep
The watch is stem wound / stem set
The watch comes with its Chronometer rate certificate from B Cooke & Son Ltd
The watch comes with its wooden deck watch box lined with green velvet. The hinged lid has a brass bezel around the aperture. The box measures 128mm x 94mm x 34mm and is in 95% mint condition
