This is an antique Harmonicon xylophone. An English, bronze and bamboo framed musical instrument by W.F. Needham of Birmingham, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Striking Chinoiserie taste to the frame, with superb musicality Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order Bamboo frame shows fine grain interest and rich caramel hues Quality bronze note bars present deep golden tones Distinctive show frame boasts strong Chinese taste with geometric forms and brass mounts Six bar scale set at an angle, suspended upon antique leather straps Each note resonates beautifully into a large brass bell adorned with pattern detail Delightfully matched notes create a musical sound with appealing sustain Musical note characters engraved to the centre of each bar Demi-lune brackets atop each bell engraved with maker's marks and individually numbered WF Needham listed as sole licensee of PlantAdditional Information
