    About this item

This is an ancient Saxon period gold spacer bead, dating to the 6th - 7th century A.D. It is of biconical shape, similar to one found in Winchester BERK-5FD5D1 and Warwickshire WMID-033CC3

It is thought this type of bead would have been worn as a spacer, on an elite gold and garnet necklace. High-status jewellery of this type would have been traded throughout Europe. This bead is in excellent but excavated condition and can still be worn again today as an amulet.
