About this item
17th century South Yorkshire oak backstool, the two scroll carved arched back to panelled seats over turned and railed under-frame. By repute the carved centre of the back rails represents the head of Charles 1. This emblem was a covert way of sharing the owner’s support for the Crown and the Royalist Cause.
