About this item
A fine 19th Century giltwood overmantle or hall mirror. The original bevelled mirror glass plate of shaped rectangular form is set within a stunningly hand carved and moulded giltwood frame with beaded border. Surmounted with an elegantly ornate, centred crest composition comprising of stylised shells and ruffles flanked with flowerheads, acanthus leaves, trailing foliate and c-scrolls, all beautifully carved in high relief. The base with a further arrangement of ruffles and scrolling acanthus leaf motif detail to the sides.
