An Antique Japanese Kimono Basket or Box
Lidded Basket Made From Fine Hand-Woven Split Cane
Japan, Meiji Era
Circa 1900
Measures:-
55 cm wide x 34.5 cm deep x 14 cm high
In traditional Japanese homes these distinctive lidded baskets/boxes, made from tightly hand-woven cane, were used for the storage of precious silk kimonos. When open, the lid and the base were also useful to place garments in whilst individuals were dressing.
