About this item

There must be a story here, a lovely late C19th tramp art photo frame, containing a pair of cabinet photographs taken in London.

The frame came from the West of Ireland, perhaps they were emigrants who sent the photos back to the family, there are no names on them unfortunately so we might never know.

The frame is hand made from stained softwood, with angular carved notches and a  striking interlocked structure. The style of the frame is often referred to as ‘ tramp art ‘, reflecting the tradition of creating objects using easily available spare wood, often decoratively carved with geometric patterns and forms.
