About this item

Large Mid‑Century Circular Garden Saucer — Likely Willy Guhl, 1950/60s

Short Description

A spectacularly large mid‑century circular garden saucer or dish, likely by Willy Guhl, with traces of original white paint and a beautifully mottled, moss‑softened surface — a striking sculptural planter for any outdoor space.

Full Description

A dramatic and highly sculptural mid‑century circular garden saucer, dating to the 1950/60s and very likely produced by Willy Guhl. Made from cellulose‑infused fibre cement, the piece displays the clean, minimal lines and quiet modernism associated with Guhl’s work for Eternit. As was often the case, this example carries no impressed “ETERNIT” mark, yet the form, scale, and material strongly align with his designs.

The surface retains faint traces of its original white paint, now softened into a mottled, weathered finish with moss forming gently around the rim — giving the piece a wonderfully organic, time‑worn presence. Four drainage holes are spaced across the base, making it practical as a planter while retaining its sculptural integrity.

A rare opportunity to acquire a spectacularly large mid‑century garden form — perfect as a statement planter, water feature base, or architectural focal point in contemporary or country‑house gardens.

Styling Notes

A standout sculptural planter for terraces, courtyards, and modernist gardens. Works beautifully with architectural grasses, succulents, or as a dramatic empty form. Its scale and patina make it a natural focal point.
