A charming nursery plate, moulded with the classic ABC alphabet rim. Underglaze transfer print decoration with an amusing adage or maxim "It is less painful to learn in youth than to be ignorant in old age" an additional banner above with the motto in very small lettering "Head instruction ' and refuse it not".
