    About this item

    AMAZING AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE PLATTER

    OCEANIC PATTERN

    Brownhills Potteries

    Staffordshire England
    c. 1882

This large, heavy and durable Victorian ironstone 17 3/4 " long x 14 1/2 " wide platter is transfer printed in rich very dark blue.  A rarely seen pattern for sale and our favorite in Seaweed motif.  A stunning addition to your collection of Seaweed and Seashells.

The pattern features a huge sailing vessel in a cartouche surrounded by quivering Seaweed.  The bottom of the platter features a variety of exquisite Shells, a giant Clamshell and other exotic Seaweed and Coral flora.  Tiny shells laced together with Seaweed grace the rim.

The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Brownfield, a pottery maker working in Brownhills in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.

The piece is in great condition.  A wonderful piece of art ready for hanging on the wall or a centerpiece in your display.
