    About this item

This is a Swiss watch made c1887-1890

Movement – the nickel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and exposed steel work for the chronograph - the movement has a start, stop and fly back chronograph function with register. The movement is signed “The Ascot, Patent 20th June 1887 and is in 90% mint condition

Case – the movement comes in a silver hunter case which has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The front cover does not pop open to 90 degrees when you press the winder in, instead it needs to be lifted open manually. The case has engine turning. The front cover has an engraved monogram and the inner is engraved “Presented to AA Elms by his fellow officers at Gibbs, Bright & Co, October 1895”. The case is of better quality than normal with gold furniture –  gold hinges and hand pin setting. The case is in 85% mint condition – there are some little dings on the back cover from the bow and light wear elsewhere.

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands with a centre blue steel chronograph hand, a subsidiary seconds at the 9 and a 30 minute register at the 3. The dial is in 90% mint condition – there is a small crack on the edge near the 3
