MINT 18K Gold Equestrian minute repeater chronograph by Volta c1900

This is a superb pocket watch made by the Swiss company Volta

Movement – the high quality gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and exposed steel work for the chronometer which has a start, stop, fly back and reset function activated by a button on the side of the case. The watch also has a minute repeater function activated by an additional button with two steel hammers striking against inner gongs. The movement is in 100% mint condition

Case – the large 18K gold case has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The inner cover is decorated with a row of miniature World Fair award medals and is signed “Volta Repetition Minute Chronographe” The case is clearly stamped 18K and also has the Volta logo on the inside of the front and back cover.

The front cover is decorated with the most superb equestrian scene of a horse, jockey and trainer. These figures are in high relief on the case and are made from cast gold. They detailing on the figures is superb even down to the veins on the horse’s muzzle with no loss of definition on the figures at all. The back ground of the scene is engraved onto the case. The back cover has a smooth plain finish and the case is in 100% mint condition

Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of filigree minute and hour hands and blue steel sub seconds and centre seconds hands. The dial is signed “Volta” and is in 100% mint condition
