    About this item

This is a fine example of a verge pocket watch made in France circa 1775.

The gold case is practically flawless and is decorated with crisp engraving and chasing and the watch is in superb condition for its age.

The term fusee applies to the delicate internal chain used within the winding mechanism. This watch ticks and runs the full length of its chain but because these fusee chains are very easy to break, we do not offer a warranty with this watch. Also due to its age, we do not guarantee time keeping either.

Movement – the gilt full plate verge movement has square baluster pillars, a pierced watch cock and a silver regulator disc. The verges contrate wheel has a higher tooth count than normal, always an indicator of quality. The movement is signed “Marchand & Fils a Paris, 3772” and is in 95% mint condition – light marks only.

Case – the movement comes in an 18K gold open face case, which has a hinged bezel which pops open when you press the button in on the side. The case is decorated with crisp chased edges and engraved detailing on the back. The case is in 99% mint condition – practically flawless

Dial – the white enamel dial has a winding hole and a special pair of beautiful gilt filigree hands with the hour hand incorporating an arched tip, designed to accommodate the winding pinion. The dial is signed “Marchand & Fils a Paris” and is in 95% mint condition – a tiny mark on the hole for the hands and flakes on the edge from the bezel closing repeatedly on that point

The watch has a domed glass

The watch is key wound / key set and comes with a period key

The watch measures 47mm wide x 20mm deep
