    About this item

This is large English silver hunter pocket watch which has clear hallmarks for 1882

This watch has a slide on the side which is used to start and stop the balance and consequently the centre seconds hand on the dial. These types of watches were made and used by doctors when taking a patient’s pulse. The lever in this case is stiff and is not that easy to use

Movement – gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a stop start slide lever – see paragraph above. The movement is signed “M Joseph, Sunderland” # 53125. The movement is in 90% mint condition – small marks and scratches

Case – the movement comes in a very heavy English silver hunter case which has a hinged inner, back and front cover and is numbered 53125. The case has a hinged inner, back and front cover and the front cover pops open to just past 45 degrees when you press the winder in and then needs to be lifted to the remaining 90% mint. The case has stepped sides and a smooth plain finish. The case is in 95% mint condition – a handsome example

Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of gilt hands and a gilt centre seconds hand. The dial is signed “M Joseph, Sunderland, 53125” and is in 100% mint condition

The watch has a mineral glass

The watch is stem wound / pin set

The watch measures 53mm wide x 15mm deep

The watch comes in a period leather box lined with velvet and silk.
