Framed 17th century engraving portrait of TJERK HIDDES DE FRIES, ADMIRAAL VAN FRIESLANDT, a Dutch Admiral (1622-1666). Drawing by Gerbrand van den Eeckhout (1621-1674).
Engraving by Abraham Blooteling (1634-1690) (Born in Amsterdam, Abraham Blooteling was a portrait engraver recognised for his development of the new technique of mezzotint involving a tool called a rocker, which created a textured surface on the plate. Blooteling worked closely with the Dutch painter Sir Peter Lely, and together they proved to be important figures in the introduction and development of the mezzotint technique of printmaking to Britain. Blooteling was based in London from 1672-8.) . A large engraving in excellent condition with minor toning and cut to plate as with many and pair to the other listed. This one also has two age related marks indicated by fetching pink arrows
Plate size is 15" x 18 1/2". Framed to 69 x 59 cm in a Georgian or early Victorian ebonies and gilt frame of quality
