19th century stipple Engraving of Lord Burgherst, painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds and engraved by F Bartolozzi RA. Stipple engraving, originally published by Molteno Colnaghi & Co, 132 Pall Mall, in 1788, correctly entitled Lord Burghersh. John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland (1784 - 1859), styled Lord Burghersh until 1841 when he became Earl. Standing in a landscape, aged 4, with his right hand pointing upwards, a large sash around his middle and a hat upon his head. Copies held in museums in the UK and US as well as with the National Trust. In a gilt carved frame, circa 1900.

John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland, was a soldier, politician - holding the seat for Lyme Regis between 1806 & 1816 diplomat and musician. He was a composer and a founder of the Royal Academy of Music. Joshua Reynolds was one of the major European portrait artists of the 18th century and knighted by George lll in 1769. He was a founding member of the Royal Academy and its first president. Francesco Bartolozzi arrived from Florence in Italy in 1764 and was appointed ‘engraver to the King’. He was a founding member of the Royal Academy in 1768.
