About this item
“A little sport is very stimulating to the imagination…”
Henry Mayo Bateman (1887-1970)
Hand coloured print
Circa 1937
Framed & Mounted
Measures:- 39.2 cm x 31 cm (framed)
A charming illustration of an elated fly fisherman standing mid-stream, excitedly landing a fish and letting his pipe drop from his mouth (actually a self-portrait caricature of Bateman). Print probably removed and coloured by hand from an edition of H. M. Bateman's "H. M. Bateman by Himself" (London: Collins Clear Type Press, 1937).
Bateman was a keen fisherman for much of his life. Towards the end of his career he wrote and illustrated "The Evening Rise: Fifty Years of Fly Fishing" in which he recounted many of his experiences with a rod and line.
Very well presented mounted on a blue sheet of paper with a gold mountline in a modern frame (Oxfordshire framer's label verso). A super image, ready to hang.
