About this item
"The British Character (Absence of the Gift of Conversation)"
Graham Laidler (known as ‘Pont’) (1908-40)
As published in Punch, 18 September 1935
Print on paper with hand-colouring
Size:- 26.2 cm x 28.9 cm (framed)
An extremely funny cartoon by "Pont" (Graham Laidler (1908-40)) lampooning the disinclination and inability of British people to talk to one another. A group of diners in a restaurant are doing anything other than talking. They read; play cards; sew; play noughts-and-crosses; juggle etc - but they do not speak! One of "Pont's" 'British Character' series, perhaps his most famous cartoons.
Beautifully presented, framed and glazed.
