    About this item

This is a rather charming medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 12th - 14th century. The ring has a simple pie-crust bezel decorated with three layers of beaded wire, the raised bezel is crowned with a nice dark garnet gemstone. This type of ring was known as a 'Penny' ring, due to its modest size and obvious cost from the goldsmith. Such rings were simply made and sold at fairs and festivals, as such, they are prone to damage due to their delicate nature. This ring appears to have been crushed when found, the garnet appears to be a replacement and the body with traces of restoration. As such it is a collectible example, but I wouldn't recommend this ring to be worn for long periods of time.
