About this item
This is an ancient Roman or Greek Bronze Patera libation bowl dating from 3rd century BC to 1st century AD. This is a plain example with a simple "omphalos," a centre indentation in the bottom that provides a finger-hold and creates a knob on the inner surface. These shallow vessels were used primarily for making libations and pouring offerings over an altar to the Gods. This example has a crack (seen in photos) and a beautiful apple-green patina.
