Exceptional Persian Karaja Rug, Circa 1890 2.15m x 1.52m
This is an exceptional Persian village rug, dating to around 1890, the revival period of Persian carpet weaving. It has very fine hand spun wool and great natural dyes. The workmanship is of a very high standard. The 3 medallion design format is well known in Karaja rugs, but it is rarely as well-executed as in this piece. Crisp drawing of all the ornaments including all the details in the field and border. Cherished through the generations, this piece has survived in remarkable condition, with full pile, no repairs, and original ends and sides. Professionally washed in our own workshops, the rug has great presence and would make a wonderful addition to any decorative setting.
