Fine Persian Isfahan Rug, Circa 1930, 2.16m x 1.49m
Isfahan rugs are among the most coveted of Persian rugs. Known for their fine wool quality and high knot count, they represent the classical Persian carpet tradition in its highest art form. This rug, woven in the 1930s, continues the tradition. The weave is very fine and the wool feels like velvet. Isfahan rugs often have very ornate designs, but the design in this rug is quite restrained. There is a delicately drawn central floral pattern which is surrounded by lovely palmettes and acanthus leaves. The sense of harmony is enhanced by the limited palette, dominated by a combination of ivory and a soft red.The overall composition is beautiful and harmonious. The rug is in good condition, with some minor restoration to the sides. The pile is even. Professionally cleaned in our workshops, it is ready for immediate use.
