This is an antique compound microscope. An English, brass instrument within a mahogany case by Negretti & Zambra, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870.
Delightful portable microscope with a quality case and modular build
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Polished brass microscope and accessories present polished golden tones
Contained within a fitted case, showing mellow caramel hues and Fine grain interest
Main body articulates upon a single column with a screw-in viewing tube
Focusing achieved with a rack and vernier adjustment
Slide stage dressed with a pair of clips and rotating wheel offering three stops
Single-sided convex mirror slots into the lower tube
Stands upon a dashing 'y' shaped Stand with chased finish
Engraved with the maker's mark 'Negretti & Zambra, London'
Sliding clasps hold the instrument securely to its plinth for storage within the case
Case door dressed with an inset working lock —key present
Comes complete with a selection of six vintage slides and a second objective lens
This is a fascinating antique compound microscope, from the renowned Negretti & Zambra. Graced with superb colour and decorative appeal, the instrument is as good to use today as it was over 150 years ago.
