A Rare 18th Century Chippendale Period Pole Screen, Circa 1760
This rare and highly decorative pole screen is a true connoisseurs piece made to a richly carved design, typical of a Thomas Chippendale design.
It stands on bold hairy paw feet which are lead-weighted for extra balance. The tripod is beautifully carved with foliate embellishments. The screen has a fine carved mahogany frame in which is housed with superb original needlework. The needlework retains its rich unfaded colour and has a floral border and a central screen depicting a medieval king and queen being presented gifts from people. The screen is held onto the original pole by gilt brass adjustable fittings which can be fixed at any point. The pole terminates with a turned and moulded mahogany finial. Circa 1760
