This is an antique extending fire screen. An English, mahogany and silk cotton fireside shield, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860.
Fascinating three panel form to guard against the largest of fireplaces Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout Select stocks present deep russet hues and fine grain interest Quality silk cotton front panel with a repeating vase pattern The front panel slides outwards, with a second panel extending in the opposite direction Turned demi-lune stretcher uniting each side of the frame Raised upon matched pairs of broad cabriole legs, terminating in bun feetThis is an unusual antique extending fire screen, adjustable to hold back the warmth from large fireplaces. Graced with fine colour to each of the quality silk cotton panels. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the fireside.
