    About this item

    Greco Roman Carved Marble Bust.

Discovered on 17th Century Shoulders fashioned as a niche bust. See photos.

We believe this fully carved marble head, possibly of Flora was collected on the Grand Tour by a wealthy aristo and converted to a niche bust.

The weathering of the head being far more advanced than the later shoulders.

The carved hair at the back of the head would be unnecessary for a niche bust.

The rake of the head was wrong for the position of the carved shoulders.

The shoulders were manufactured to include a bracket with additional iron and lead work to attach the components.

This was a known practice during the 17th & 18th centuries.

    See reference

    11.5 “ high (29.3)
