Walnut carving depicting a classical female figure standing in contrapposto (counterpoise), after the ancient Greek sculpture from the Hellenistic period by Alexandios of Antioch (c130-100BC). The original, now in the Louvre, stands 6’8” tall and sculpted from parian marble is said to represent Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, known to the Romans as Venus de Milo.
