    About this item

This is an ancient Roman carnelian intaglio, dating to the 2nd - 3rd century A.D. The nicely cut feminine figure, draped and crowned, holds a situle with the right hand and a sistrum with the left hand. Goddess Isis in her role as mother and creator was depicted holding a situle, symbolizing the flooding of the Nile, in one hand and a sistrum in the other. A rare magical gem referring to a priestess of the Isis cult.
