    About this item

This is a superb example of a Welsh pair case verge from Anglesey . Finding Welsh pocket watches is hard enough but this one bears a Keep Me Clean dial, which in themselves are scarce

The watch has clear hallmarks for Birmingham 1822

Movement – the gilt full plate verge movement has cylindrical pillars, a fusee chain, a verge escapement and a beautifully pierced and engraved watch cock decorated with a grotesque face. The movement also has a blue steel regulator and is signed “David Jones, Amlwch” 6420. The movement is in 95% mint condition

Inner case – the movement comes in an inner case, which has a hinged bezel and the watch is wound from the back, set from the front and is accessed from the front also. The case has its original stem and bow. The back is engraved with initials JW. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 85% mint condition – a superb example but there is one deep bruise on the side

Outer case – the original and matching outer case has its original clasp. It has a smooth plain finish and is in 90% mint condition – the button dome is squashed

Dial – the dial has an inner white enamel chapter ring and has its original pair of gilt hands. The dial has a gilt outer border engraved with “Keep me clean and use me well and I to you the truth will tell”. The dial has a circular gilt inner decorated with two birds and a basket and the dial is in 98% mint condition – a hairline on the 10.

The watch has a bulls eye mineral glass

The watch measures 55mm wide x 23mm high including the glass

The watch is key wound / key set and comes with a key
